Reflection about assignment 1

After doing our presentation, I have some experience      Our math problem is about Pythagorean Triples. The first step is that each of us tried to solve this problem. It took me 1 day to solve this problem. After comparing the answer with my group, I realized that my solution had some mistakes. Researching made me understand deeper how to solve this problem and the question was asked that the way to solve this problem is in Babylon or in modern period. Finally, our group found out the answer. For me, doing research is an interesting and useful step for knowing ancient math problems.      Actually, before this course I did not know anything about Babylon math period. The interesting thing of Babylon math period is 60-base. Checking Pythagorean formula with Babylonian number helps me to realize that the idea of using Pythagorean formula appeared in Babylon period.   After agreement, I decided to focus on extension. For me, collaboration is so im...

Was Pythagoras Chinese-Revisiting an old debate

After reading this article, I was surprised that                 Due to the geographical isolation of China in ancient times, the accepted history of mathematics                in the western world largely ignores their contributions. By examining the history of Chinese                   mathematics, one can see they had an understanding of mathematics similar to that of the                             western world, and Greeks in particular. In cases such as the calculation of π and the proof of                   the right - angle theory, both Chinese and Greeks made astounding discoveries. The most                        ...

Eye of Horus

After reading and researching about Eye of Horus, I have some impressive things to share  Eye of Horus is a left eye. The right eye is called "Eye of Ra". Horus's eye was torn up 6 pieces by Seth, and Thoth, the god of wisdom magically restored these pieces. This story shows the meaning of this eye is protection, healing, and sacrifice. The eye is made up 6 elements. Five of the elements presents 5 senses and the sixth one is the thought. The eyebrow represents thought because it is close to the brain. The pupil presents the sight. The right slide of the pupil, which is closest to the nose, is associated to the smell. The left slide of the pupil represents the hearing. The curved part presents taste. the teardrop represents the touch.  Each of the sacred unit fraction which the ancient Egyptians attributed to the six parts of the eye of the god Horus: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16. 1/32. 1/64. These fractions, all with powers of two in their denominators, were used to represent th...
